Ill be huntin my own woods tomorrow, its only a twenty acre chunk. Will turkeys tolerate vehicls close by predawn? IOW...can I drive into the field and set up then park truck at entrance? They usually roost within 20-40 yds of the field edge. Or should I just man up and pack my blind, decoys, gear across the field?

Wow, just had this lesson myself on wednesday! we parked a 1/4 mile away and went in in the dark, unbeknownst to us the turkeys, a longbeard and 2 hens, were roosted just about 100 yards away from the blind in plain sight....we set up a jake and 4 hens, and as it started to get light we finally saw the birds on their roost, then at about 6:45 the tom started gobbling, my friend made a couple quiet hen purrs and the gobbler took notice, at 7am the gobbler flew down...... to our left and hit the ground running at warp speed for the other end of the field, quickly followed by the hens, my buddy hit his slate call again and they ran even faster........Dave, man up and carry your stuff, the decoys may work on a tom that isn't henned up, but may send him a running........I did get a bird on friday at 7:15am in a different field, but it was without a single decoy and with my buddy using a different call..talk about exiting!!!, and heck of a story too, anyone want to hear a first turkey story?(I'll open a different thread though)

I don't think it bothers them at all. Here's why, look between the 2 trucks.

I wouldn't chance getting a truck to close to a roosted bird though. Chances are pretty good they might stay on roost for a loooong time if disturbed or worse yet vacate the area as soon as they fly down.

I bumped 2 birds the other day walking in to my spot, They are never up towards the front of the woods, I even did a Owl Call, from the road, and they never even shock Gobbled, Why they were there is strange to me unless they got bumped during the Night, By something? Who Knows, But I sure would'nt Park My truck to close to where they Roost, Or your Hunt will be Over real quick, although you still may Kill a Bird, Fro that setup, I have seen Birds (Toms) Come Back after several Hr's.
