Man shot in possible hunting accident By Brad Conaway
Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a turkey hunter being shot near the main entrance area of Patoka Reservoir. According to the investigation, 62-year-old Anthony F. Pavlench from Valparaiso, and 53-year-old Christopher S. Hanna from Chesterton were turkey hunting together early Thursday morning. The hunters had set up to hunt about 30 yards apart from each other. Hanna's 12 gauge shotgun discharged for some unclear reason at this time, striking Pavlench in the right leg. Dubois County dispatch was contacted around 8:00 o'clock. Pavlench, assisted by Hanna, was able to walk out to their vehicle. Hanna then drove the victim to Celestine where they were met by an ambulance and Pavlench was then transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital. The wounds were not life threatening. The victim was treated and has been released. The accident is still under investigation.
Indiana Conservation Officers were assisted by the Dubois County Sheriff's Office and the Celestine Volunteer Fire Department.
