Anyone seeing any birds in Southwestern Indiana? Went out to day, not seen any, but maybe because of the wind. hope the birds will be ready when season comes around

I saw one hen near Rockport yesterday on my way to Evansville! Never herd or saw anything yesterday morning while scouting!

Still gobbling and struting in Ohio Co. They were out all morning behind the house, very hard to see because of all the foliage right now. I cant remember it being so grown up so early in the year. You cant see more than 30 yards in the woods. Going to be an interesting season. Still finding sheds too.

Can not help you there, I have never killed a turkey, always in the wrong spot at the wrong time. Still enjoy getting out in the morning right before sunrise and here the animals. Wish you luck, but I need all I can get myself.

Most of the hens will be sitting by the time your season starts. The ones that aren't will have Toms roosting close by. Get close, don't call till the gobbler is on the ground. If he goes the other way, take a nap and wait about an hour an give chase. Get close again, if you can make him gobble and you'll have a good chance to kill him. Right now, decoys seem to be ineffective. Everthing is perfect for running and gunning. Mid morning can be good, but they won't be gobbling much then until you get him fired up. If you hear one, you can expect him to be closer than you think, because of the foilage, so don't get too close when you approach.

Woodmaster called in two long beards down in KY. They closed to 40 yards but he was packing his PSE XForce and not his 870.

My birds are in late season form right now. I don't predict my season to be one day and done like it usually is. I think I will have to hunt em hard to get my bird this season. My patterning is all off because of the weather.
Just means this bird is going to be even better if I get one.

I had a tom and 2 hens 35 yards in front of me this morning. I went to a new spot, sat down at the edge of a field and they showed up at about 6:45am. They finally ambled off.

I scouted 2 different spots in Gibson and Warrick counties this last weekend and can't remember hearing more birds gobble. In Gibson co. they seemed to quit when they hit the ground. I hit my spot in warrick up on Sunday and the birds were out everywhere and were still strutting and gobbling when I left at 9:30. Saw very few hens but the toms were out in full force. Hoping that its like that in another week but who knows with those goofy birds!

Three completely different phases that turkeys go through in the spring. Google it and read about the second phase and prepare for that one for the Ind. Opener. It's the most hunter unfriendly of the three, Be happy if I'm wrong.

Lots of factors are going to make killing a bird tougher this year.
Know the ground. Know where birds want to be and go after them.
Im looking forward to the challenge.

Actually heard a gobbler this morning - I was just out on the deck but I think he was a potentially callable bird from out back.
