Not really rare but not a wood duck or mallard. Nice mounts for sure and great memories.

Good looking bird and mount!
Woodie, maybe not rare, but I've only been duck hunting for 2 years, and of the 6-7 people that I know that hunt ducks up here, that's the first one that I know of being shot in the past 2 years.
When I took mine in, the taxidermist said some must have migrated thru the area because he had taken a few in just during the past few days. He said they are always shot during the last few days of the season.

Yea I wouldn't say rare. I've shot quite a few gadwalls. Most of the days that we've had real good hunts there is a gadwall in the mix. This one fell out of the sky, and I don't know what killed him cause there wasn't a shot mark anywhere. Plus he looked real pretty and real mature. Prettiest one I had shot. I didn't have a duck mount, and season was coming to an end in 2008. Therefore I decided to get him mounted. Plus like I said above, my uncle had shot a mountable black duck the same day. So it just seemed like the right thing to do. I'm glad I did cause I still think he looks real nice. I love that red color on their wings.

The Gadwall is nice but I much prefer THE THREE KINGS. Yea he's been hunting 30+ year, and he already has all those birds mounted solo too. I'm just working my way up the ladder. ;D Hopefully have my wigeon back in a few months, and then maybe come next year I can get on a pintail. |
