What type of spread do you guys use for field geese? And how many dekes do you use?

This time of year, the more the better. I always try to get two large groups and then connect the two groups on the outer edge of the spread with a sting of dekkes. The open area you creat is where you hide. This allows the birds to "land on top of you". Always point your feet into the wind so you can sit up and wack 'em. Aim for the bill and you'll hit them in the chest! Remember you have lots of eyes to fool, the less movement the better.

We do it a bit different then Hotshot. Bout the same spread but we put a big wad in the center and tail them off to each side leaving the opening in front of you and us hiding in the big wad. Theorecically the geese will land in the opening or up wind of the wad. And we set with the wind to our back.
Adjust with how the birds react, more of giving us something to do I guess. But another trick is to put 3 upright dekes 15-20 yrds in front of the hole, and put 2 smaller groups behind the wad off to each side.
Break up the wad into many smaller groups with big holes between each.
Get a flag, or make one.
The birds will land into the wind so set yourself up for the best possition possible.

yeah, the flag works great. I have one that I made out of an old shovel handle and a black T-Shirt with white lettering. Wave that at far off flocks, and then lay it sown next to you as the birds turn. Works just as well for me as any store bought version.

The big rough "X" pattern is the one we go to when nothin else shakes em out of the air. The beauty of this is that it works especially well if you have a wind that is having trouble making up its mind on which way to blow. We put the full bodies and better looking shells toward the center of the X (and also the hunters). Make it look a little sloppy, not an X that looks like a typewriter hit the field. You will end up with 4 landing zones, so you have to watch your back for those quiet fliers coming up the tail pipe.
4 dozen or so usually does the trick- silhouettes, shells, and full bodies combined.
