What approach do you guys use in the early season? I am very interested in hunting geese early this year!

Location, location, location.
Local birds seem to have a pretty set schedule this time of the year. Bout the only thing that will change their path is floods, hunters, or me set up in their spot. Any of those happen and you might see a change.
If you are in a good spot, just a few dekes will work but you need to be hid real good and not move when they are gliding in.
Cow pastures, water, silage fields, cut wheat (if the weeds aint too tall) are all good areas. As well as school yards and golf courses.

duff let me know where your going to be opening day. Nope I don't want to take your spot but I do want to be the next field over . I picked up the camo grass today and got a few pointers on how to attach it, It will be quick and easy to get the blind ready to hunt this year and don't expect me to gather up stalks for you.

What, you ain't picking up stalks for me? Did you get any of the green stuff? I was planning on hunting right next to you anyways. I guess we will have to hide a bit further apart. How big was your pool again. It might be big enough.

I got two different colors of green (pasture color) and one light brown (corn stalk color). I'll let you hunt the pond if you want. You don't even need any camo, just sit on the bank behind the small bushes and smoke the birds just as their feet hit the water. I'll even guarantee you a open days limit there. Maybe I'll invite my down south bud to come up for a hunt. I'll set him up then go across the road for coffee, ya right more like to call the local men in blue. Wonder what size bracelets he wears. ;D

410 I should have bought some of those shells off of you last year when you were selling them. I'm going to be down south for dove, and if the weather turns nasty I have places for Geese there also. Now i'm shooting myself for not getting a dozen or so when I had the chance.

Indy, you want to borrow them? I have enough for the early season and if not I'll just go take duffs.

I may take you up on that. Even if it is just a dozen. I would kick myself in the rear if I found a good spot and didn't have any decoys. Of course my calling still leaves something to be desired, but I should be able to call at least as well as Duff by the opener.

Give me a call if you want to use them. As for duffs calling ability, I hear his daughter is already outdoing him. She's told him to take her hunting but to leave his calls in the truck.

She is getting pretty good, but I hate it when she leaves crusty milk on my calls!
Indy, you should set up for geese in the morning then go for doves. Takes a lot of doves to equal one honker let alone 5 of em. Plus the geese should move early then my 9 or 10 you can get your birds of peace.

Takes a lot of doves to equal one honker let alone 5 of em. Yep, but Geese aren't near as good to eat as Dove in my opinion. And i'll have plenty of other opportunity to hunt Geese through the season. After the first couple weeks of Dove hunting, you might as well hang it up.

Sept. 6 and Can. Geese will start to fall around here. I will be on the edge of my brothers farm waiting in the brush. 12 g. #2 shot 3 1/2" shells. Maybe BB shot too. The barbecue is by the barn ;D
