The original turkey stockings didn't take on too well, mainly because they weren't done correctly, NOT because of woods or lack of. The thought at that time was all you had to do was turn loose a dozen hens and a couple or one gobbler, because a gobbler will often breed a dozen or more birds each spring. In reality, what happened was the gobblers would die of natural causes and not breed any. So it took awhile for the biologists to figure out what was happening and get it right. Glad they did.
