Monday night I was grilling outside right at dark and heard geese going into one of the neighboring lakes. On Tuesday morning I thought I would try something I have wanted to do since I bought my property and that is set up along an old fence line that has a few snarly old pine trees along it and attempt a pass shoot hunt. Now I have a pond on my property that is wide open water however because of my up coming knee surgery I put away my decoys and boat for the year and decided to call it a season however I knew the wind would finally be right for this type of hunt. At legal shooting time I walked from my house out to a small group of pines and watched the first pair leave then I moved to the spot along that fence line where they crossed and waited. Long story short I killed 4 birds in 4 shots in less than 2 hours with out breaking a sweat. This is no great feat in itself however this was something I have always wanted to do and I finally got the chance to do it, for an old man an easy hunt is small blessing that doesn't come along that often. Note: there were a lot of high flying long lines of migrating geese moving Northward yesterday evening right before dark.

That is how I first got introduced to goose hunting. Nothing wrong with a good pass shooting, when done right, except you begin to wonder why you bought so many stinking decoys!

Yes a different hunt. When you get old easy is good. Tuesday the wife drove me to the corn field. I set a few decoys and settled in. Small flock of geese came, two down. Talking with the dog and he goes on alert. Dog breaks (bad) charges out to 5 silent landing geese. One goose comes around away from the dog. Dead goose. Dog heads for the dead goose and the other 4 geese come by on the left. Bang bang two more geese down dead. Called the wife to come and pick me up. Total time in the field 2 hours. Cleaning 5 geese in the dark is not fun but part of the hunt. Very satisfied for an old man.

Good going guys.. As an older generation hunter I know full well that I need to adapt and still enjoy the hunt.

Duff:Decoys have the same effect on men as jewelry does to a women, they make you look good and feel good, but sometimes it's better go without.
Doubler: it sounds like your dog could use some more training, of course that's what you get for buying a Chessie. On the other hand I would say you got your wife pretty well trained. Now if you could only get her to clean those geese you would have it made. After all men are the hunter/ gatherers women should be the plucker's and gutters. DON'T TELL SALLY I SAID THAT.
