Sometimes, the funniest things happen on a hunt. I guided a couple of young shooters yesterday and we had a blast. These young fellas have shot quite a few clays and it showed in some excellent shooting! One of the quail was on the wood's edge which opted for a lil "grouse style." Maggie pointed the bird, the quail turned into a rocket with some "woodcock" mixed in, and both boys let the lead fly. I hollered, "Y'all dropped a leg!" and Maggie bolted on retrieve. But, she didn't make it to the bird before it escaped into a hole at the base of the tree. Her paw wouldn't fit into the hole and she was goin' nuts clawing and biting the tree, trying to get the bird. It was pretty cool watching the whole scenario play out. I pulled Maggie off and the boys went to town. One fella had a stick and the other pinched his hands together until he barely had hold of one leg. And out he finally came. To some this might not be a big deal. Reality...we talked more about this the rest of the day than the best shot on the finest rooster. And I'll guarantee ya...it will be a lifetime memory:

That's a good question. This was a "preserve hunt" so it was probably about 20 quail and 6 pheasant.
