Here is my catch so far this year. I have 19 coons, 15 oppossums (I dont keep the oppossums) 10 coyotes. The 1st coyote of the year I did not keep due to having bad fur, and 3 bobcats (released) I don't think that is too bad for just my 2nd year of trapping.

For someone with only 2 years under your belt your doing a fine job of not only catching fur, but putting it up as well. There's nothing like quality well handled fur and the job you done with yours looks top notch. Putting up quality coons is an art many will never take the time to master, you have did well. I have always said a trapper makes and earns his money in his fur shed doing a good job a putting his fur up right. I don't hit it near as hard as I used to. Trapping for me was never my main income, but In some years past it was my job from October 15. through the end of January. I usually enjoyed putting my fur up at the end of the day, but those nights with a good days run with a pile of 20 coons and 50 or so rats looking at me sure made it hard the next morning. I many times just skinned and froze the hides until a later date when I could do my fleshing and stretching. I kind of miss doing it, but now with the price of gas and the fact that I'm getting old and fat, it would be hard to make a go of it like I used to. Do you have a local buyer that you sell to? I always had good results shipping to NAFA. Waiting on my fur check was hard but usually the profits from shipping was well worth the wait. I also have sold fur at our local FTA fur sale auction with good results. Good luck the remainder of the season.

Thanks ms660 for the fine comments. i went to a fur sale today down at Jerry Joe Barnetts in folsomeville. They were supposed to have 3 or 4 buyers there but the one from the north got snowed in and the other one could not make it. They decided to have another sale next Saturday but the guy who did show up went ahead and bought from whoever wanted to go ahead and sell. Well I decided to go ahead and get rid of them. I had 19 coons and 9 coyotes and I went home with $286.00 The one silver coyote brought $20 and then I had 3 more that brought $15 a piece. The other 5 he said had been rubbed onthe back and he gave me $5 apiece for those. On the coons I had 3 he gave me $15 a piece, on 8 I got $12 apiece, on 1 I got $10, on 2 I got $7and the rest were $3, and 1 I got a Buck for a runt. Now I know what is going on I will probably ship to NFTA next time. But I don't think I did too bad.

Now I know what is going on I will probably ship to NFTA next time. But I don't think I did too bad. I used to go to most of the sales down at Jerry Joes, but haven't gone to one in a couple years. I'm still a member of the 7C Fur Takes of America, and the NTA, but not as active as I once was. The year I was a student at the FTA trappers college at La Grange IN, I met with Jerry and followed him up to Charlie Parks where I spent a great week learning from the pros. Jerry is still an instructor at the FTA college. Tom Miranda, Kermit Stearns, Keith Gregerson, Pete Askins were just of few of the experts that were teaching when I was there. I know that Kermit has since passed on. He was a 72 years old when I was there and was my main instructor. I do highly recommend the FTA college to anyone that enjoys the sport of trapping. It's a solid week learning from some of the best in the trade. It made me a much better trapper.

parkerbow, nice pic and great prep work!
I trapped when younger, and 99% of it was water trapping. Never caught a fox, and there weren't any 'yotes in the area then. (that I knew about)
steiny, how hard is a 'yote compared to a beaver to skin?
