Just wondering if they work at all? Are they just for locating? Looking to spice up my Son's first hunt where he is the shooter.

I've carried one for about 17 years. I've tried a few different styles and prefer the rubber bulb without the wooden barrel. I have had days that it wasn't worth getting out of my pocket, but also had days that we couldn't shoot all the critters coming to it. It works to locate, but a little later into the season they will actually come to the call. There's is nothing cooler that a big bushy tail making tracks across the treetops just to stop on an open limb and bark his head off looking for a playmate.

Like the others said, some days it works great and some days it doesn't...I have an old PS Olt squirrel call model B10 that I've had for atleast 20 years...Still works like a new one.

Mine is an OLT but I have no idea what the model is. I have had mine for 15 years or so.

I have the Olt model B-10 also. (wooden barrel, rubber bulb) Like the others said, sometimes it works, sometimes not, just like any other call for any other game I've ever tried. I always had the best luck on very quiet mornings with soft feeding calls. As with any call, overcalling is the worst thing you can do.

is that a call you "pop" with the palm of your hand or is it a mouth blown call ?

Rubber bulb you "pop" in hand, on gun stock, and I even hold between my teeth and use differing shapes of my mouth to change the sound. It really does matter if you hold you mouth right!

I mainly call to locate them. I usually just make a small circle with my thumb and forefinger and make a sharp kissing sound with it. It really riles them up sometimes, and you never forget to bring your call.

I actually found the box mine came in while cleaning things out for a garage sale. I saved it to put the model number on here.....if I can remember where I put it!

I wouldn't hunt without mine! I use a barker, and a Mr. Squirrel whistle. I mainly use the barker when I lose sight of a squirrel in the tree tops, or if NOTHING is going on in the woods. I've had limited success with the whistle, although I don't use it much either. My old boss swore by his. There is a definate technique to getting them to react to the whistle. It has to be early season, you have to really put your heart into it (just like predator calling), and you have to shake a sappling so it sounds like a squirrel getting chased and last but not least, you have to be well concealed. Either by camo or actually hiding, because they are looking HARD for that wounded young one they are hearing scream.

I only use the "Mr. Squirrel Whistle". I have had excellent results with it. I have had them come to with in 3 foot of me with it.

Wow-just seeing the topic of squirrel calls got me excited. I have the old wood barrel, rubber plunger, dunno what make, it`s worn off-Olt sounds right. I`ve killed so many squirrels with that call and my old, (purchased in 1980), Remington 552 Speedmaster .22 I`ve never NOT had success with that call-it always does me some good-whether it`s only getting them to bark back, or whether they come to it. Listen to them call, and mimic that back to them. It`s really easy, and it`s a blast. Try the feeding chuckle-very effective
