This season I think I may pursue squirrel with a handgun only. I am hoping that this will reduce the amount of squirrels that I have to clean! I am going with a 5.5" stainless Ruger Mark III with open sights. Anyone else going to chase 'em with a short barrel? In a month and a half, the games will begin...

jajwrigh,
should be fun with open sights. i use to have a stoeger-lugar 22 with open sights that was deadly accurate. i sold it to a friend several years ago and always regretted it. the ruger mark III should whack em. most likely you will need a good set of shooting sticks. any more i hunt the first day or so and take a limit or two and quit because i can find anyone who wants the squirrels. h.h.

Browning Buckmark here. Dad has a Mk. III and its impossible to put back together if you take it apart for cleaning. But other than that they are great guns.
I shoot factory iron sights on the Buckmark.

I have a Ruger MK II Government model with a 4x Simmons scope on it that has killed quite a few squirrels. In fact, I shot my first limit with this gun! It is a real tack driver.

Yep, I will be using a Ruger MKIII 22/45 with a Bushnell red dot scope mounted on top. This is one tack driving machine!

I don't own a hand gun that I could use to hunt small game..... but I know my uncle gets limit about every time he goes and he uses a Conteder pistol with a 22LR barrel on it and open sights..... Me I am doing good to get limit with my scoped rifle... I will 3 or 4 every time... but that 5th one almost always eludes me. .... this year will be even more fun though cause I am taking my daughter out with me for the first time... although she can't shoot yet (she is only 4) she has been practicing her "quiet walk" with me when I take her out scouting for deer and turkey

I have been using a Browning Buckmark open sights for squirrel, rabbit, and coon hunting for about 10 years..., I love it. It is a very accurate weapon.

I killed one last year just for the heck of it with my Browning Buckmark and open sights. Lots of fun and like someone else said I was still hunting but didn't have to worry too much about cleaning the little buggers ! 1 shot 1 kill then I went home !
