He said to me last week ... " If I take a day of next week do you think we could get into some Jack's ? "
I figured ... no problem , so he took today as a Vacation day and we headed out for his first Jack rabbit hunt !
We started the morning off with our usual steak and eggs at the " Drift Inn "
We spent time on the snowshoes ... hunting fencelines and bush lots .... I got some cool pictures ... and Randy got his first Jack Rabbit !
Some shots of Randy and his dog Abby ...
Randy was carrying his favorite Remington 870 pump and I tried my Remington 552 Speed Master 22 LR .
There were some good trails in the bush , but I couldn't get on the Jacks quick enough with camera or scoped 22 for a decent shot ...
The fence lines proved the best ! But I missed this guy after I took his picture !
Another fence line shot and the Jack running away ...
Here is one that didn't get away ... and ended up being Randy's 1st Jack Rabbit ...
Randy came up on him from the opposite side of the fence line , and some heavy # 4's out of the 870 did the trick ... here is the walk up ... and the happy hunter !
The wind and sky got fowl and closed in on us later on ... I got a picture of the changing weather as we headed back to the truck ...
Later in the day ... we came apon what at 1st we thought was a Jack Rabbit hiding in the snow ... but turned out to be a scruffy looking Hen Pheasant .... I got to within approx 6 feet of her before she flew off ...
Anyway .... Randy addmitted ... " it was worth the Vacation day ! " ....
The things we do to put meat on the table !
