There are areas that you do not need a boat or a dog. I do not have a boat or a dog that retrieves and I have enjoyed every hunt. You may want to stay out of the main pools, and may have to look a bit harder to to find a spot to set up and make sure you can get your birds, but it can be done. You can talk to the folks that work there as well, they are very helpful. Enjoy!!

khart07: you picked a bad year to try duck hunting in Indiana because............there ain't many ducks here this year. It is a good year to try your luck and at the same time learn your way around a lot of the public areas. There are a few guys on this site that hunt down there, maybe you might get to know them and that way next year you will have some idea what you are up against and maybe you might be asked to join some of these folks. GOOD LUCK!

You have to be at the check station before the draw (0530 on Mon, Thur, & Sat and not sure but I think 1030 on Wed). Hunting parties of 2 or 3 hunters get preference over singles. Most areas can be waded but there are some steep and deep ditches that will catch you off guard. Lots of water this year so some areas might be over your chest waders this year that would not typically be but you should be able to find a spot.
As I said, lots of water and without a good idea on where to go you are pretty much a crap shoot. But it's probably better than Atterbury for sure.
Good luck

Wednesday draw is at 11am. I spend a lot of time at GP, and I would highly reccomend having a john boat or layout boat. A lot of the pools have a deep area to cross. However we use our john boats to haul our stuff more than anything. Anywhere you go is a long walk. Putting stuff in and pulling the boat is easier walking. If you have specific questions PM me, and I'll try to tell you a good spot to start at down there where you can walk in.
