I put a camera over the gut pile of the doe I shot on Dec 3. If youre into trail cams and have never done this its pretty cool to see what comes and goes. By the time I was done gutting her and got out of the woods it was about 10:30. It took this Redtail all of 30 minutes to find it! Attachments:

This is a one eared doe Ive been seeing all season. Her and her fawn come and go every so often. I wont see them for a couple of weeks then they show back up. Im not sure what happened to the ear but all thats left is a white nub. Attachments:

Very interesting but not surprising. Generally within 24 hours around my neck of the woods there is not much evidence left....I really need to do some coyote thinning!

I had 1 picture of a coon on the 5th, a few of the Red tails and on the 7th crows started showing up. I had 0 pics of coyotes which really surprised me. And in the span of 6 days I had 14 pictures of various deer. Some night some day time. The night pics were early morning like 6am. Id say (which I knew from doing this before) gutting your deer in the woods where it falls has no effect on your deer hunting that stand very soon after you gut one there. Attachments:

Usually not from what I have observed.

Shot three does a couple of years ago and gutted right there. All within 20 yards of my stand and then drug them out. Blood was everywhere. Killed a 10 pointer the next day and he just smelled of the piles and payed them no attention. Deer do not go to school and learn what a gut pile or blood is. LOL

I hunted over a friends gut pile grime the morning last weekend, it didn't make a bit of difference. I hope to hunt over another one tomorrow afternoon from the morning. ;-)

Not from what I've seen either. I heart shot one during bow season 3-4 years ago and had another buck come in while I was waiting to go get it. He smelled around in the blood and then walked off - wasn't concerned at all.

We tried that for the first time 3 years ago and got yotes, dogs, a hawk, crows, buzzards, and deer on camera.

I don't think it bothers the deer as they don't know where those guts came from...they don't even know they are guts. What can bother them is the smell of coyotes it can attract.
I've seen that once from the stand, so why take a chance? Me? I'll drag the deer a hundred yards or so away from the stand to gut.

Its this simple to me if its not there when I hung the stand it wont be there after I make the shot .The issues are usually the human and animal disruptions that go along with the gutting of game in an area .Lets face it the guts did not fall out all by themselves .
So in fact the deer may very well check it out and seem unaffected but that is not the case they were smelling and found it they may or may not be back for a few days or longer if they pic up the human presence there with the guts . I gut out of the woods no guts no gutting no preditors and deer may stay at ease longer in the hunting area.
We pretend to know what deer are thinking or sense I would rather not start that mind set .

"Does a gut pile bother a deer?" I say it bothers the deer it came from. Lol

Drug two doe carcasses out to the middle of a two acre field for the eagles and had to go back in the area later that afternoon and three doe were standing within 50 yards of the pile.
