Saw a couple hundred birds come in to the hole last night, so I decided I would get out a little early this morning. It was a good thing I got started out in the boat at 5:00am. Busted ice near my blind for probably 150yds. But well worth it. Ended up with 3 greenheads, a banded honker, and a buffy. Even if I hadn't got to click the safety off it would have been a great day. I saw an estimated 5-7 hundred birds flying high today. You guys in the south ought to be getting some good shooting in the next few days!!!

I am glad someboby's getting into them because it sure aint been me. The area around by me has been so void of birds this year its not funny. I don't even have birds at my bird feeders. Hoping this cold snap will improve things a bit.......heck if I just see a bird that would be a 100% improvement.

Been rough here too. We usually put them down around Thanksgiving and up until a week or so before Christmas. It's like it hasn't even started here. Hope it doesn't miss us.

Last Sunday I hunted the NE corner of SR8 and SR39 and never fired a shot however the SE corner pounded them till 11:00am when they quit shooting for the day. Hunted my place every day this week and saw (never shot at) but saw about 10 ducks.

Out this morning at 5:15 and stayed until 11:30. Got two honkers and saw maybe 15 ducks total. The front pushed em out. Hope some new birds show up this evening.

Got to the boat this morning and was frozen in the water. 1/2 to 3/4 inch 3-4 hundred yards out til I hit open water. Hunting buddies didnt go either so I decided to hit the river. Saw probably 200 plus mallards, a few woodrows, 5 blacks, and couldn't count the geese. Ended up bagging a few. Had 3 bucks bed down less than 50 yards from me on one set. Saw a family of otters playing around. Great hunt even if I wouldn't have gotten to click the safety off!!! Be carefull out there the water is still a tad high

The farm that we hunt has a LOT of ditches running thru it, and they're all open. We saw maybe 150 Mallards yesterday, and maybe 70 today. Yesterday we limited out on Mallards (3 of us) and I also shot a drake Gadwall. I limited out on one flock, first shot dropped a greenhead, 2nd shot dropped a greenhead and a hen, and the 3rd shot dropped another greenhead. 3 of us shot 7 birds from that flock.
Poor planning and execution today. Even tho we saw all those birds, we only fired 6 shots and really shouldn't have. 0 birds.
It figures, season closes just when the hunting gets good. I really wish they'd open the season up here at least 2 weeks later, if not 3 weeks.

Went out yesterday morning only because it was the last day and you never know. About 9:00am I was picking up my stuff when I heard geese coming from the east, what I witnessed was about 4-5 flocks with about 600+ geese with a few snows mixed in. These flocks were being trailed by several flocks of ducks, all the birds were high and headed west. This was the largest movement of birds I have seen at one time in many many years. With all the hype that was written about this years duck season I will say for sure that this was the worst on record for me. It will be interesting to see what will happen on the second season for those that will hunt on Christmas eve and Christmas day.

It will be interesting to see what will happen on the second season for those that will hunt on Christmas eve and Christmas day. It's been the same down here. In years past I'd have 40-60 ducks on count by now. And definitely some limits of geese. So far this year I've shot 2 ducks and 2 geese. It's been insanely bad. Lots of hype for this season, but I sure haven't seen this record number of birds they talked about. It's supposed to warm up this week, so I'm hoping it holds the new birds we've received. Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas is to get on some birds before January!

It has been getting better for us here around west and south of Indy. We've been hitting a lot of draw hunts since we can't get in our fields. They've been ok. Did my worst day ever of shooting on Wednesday. But have finally put some meat in the freezer. I really want to be in a field, but I don't want to rut it up and lose my permission. Hope everyone else does well over the holiday weekend.
