Has anyone ever tried raising any birds? I am thinking about trying to raise some Chukars next spring. What has your experience been?

I raised both pheasants and quail for training. Quail are TINY as hatchlings. They can squirm thru 1/2" chickenwire.
Do your research. Pheasants are mean suckers. If they don't have enough room, they'll peck at each other. I ended up putting blinders on mine.
Rodent control - don't use poison if raising pheasants. They'll eat a dead mouse and die themselves.
I would buy day old chicks, put them in a brooder and slowly get them acclimated to outside temps. Round corner pens are better than square corner pens, at least 8' tall pens with netting on top.
Double door to get in, you have to shut one door before you can open the 2nd one. Electric fence along the bottom of the pen on the outside. First strand 3" off the ground, 2nd strand 8", 3rd strand about 16"-18" Run the fence about 12" away from the pen. Fresh clean water is a must, you can put antibiotics in the water if you need to. Don't forget to have gravel out for them. A place to get out of the rain when they're small will help keep losses to a minimum.

That is correct goosey. They are fairly inexpensive and not hard to obtain. However, one could raise chukar partridge and not need a permit. There also is no season for the chukars.
