I've seen less than 25% of my average this year. Crops are out, so can't blame them. Just no deer where there SHOULD be deer. This is on properties where large numbers of does have not been taken. Some does...yes, but not to the extent that I would see this extreme drop off this year. I'm hearing the same story from guys that hunt all over the state. Guys who hunt hard and well on properties with historically great poulations are seeing numbers like they did back in the 80's! They aren't even getting trailcam pics where they always get pics. Something is up, and I don't like it!

I have seen lots and lots of bucks big and small but I have seen very few does in my woods where I might typically see up to 12 does on opening day. I cant blame my lack of does on the bonus tags because there is very little hunting pressure in my area.

I have NOT seen deer in places where I always USED to see deer. So... I went different places, and whaddya know? There they are!!!
I have a theory... that Darwinism works on a micro level when we hunt. The deer that are susceptible to the tactics we use... get killed (or educated) over a few years. The deer that are not susceptible to our tactics survive, and train the next generation.
Deer hunting 101 rule #1. When you think you got 'em figured out... better figure again!
I am lucky and hunt public ground. A LOT of it. I make a point to explore new ground EVERY year. it seems that the NEW places are the producers for a few years. Sometimes it takes 8-10 years for them to go thru another cycle of deer that are susceptible to my tactics.
If you're not seeing deer, quit doing the same old dance.
I am going to post this in a new thread.

The areas I used to hunt in Owen I know are down on deer numbers and mostly small bucks whole area is a pressured mess anymore, moved to some less pressured areas in Morgan and Johnson and have seen more normal numbers and movement

Warm weather and the Windy extremes we've had I'm sure plays into deer sightings...there's alot of variables.

My area is a funnel type area. We seen does nearly evertime out. Seen more bucks than I normally see. I took a buck opening day. I put 1 doe and 1 button in the freezer. Daughter put a doe in my freezer. Had a couple days where I just went to see critters. Watched 2 bucks and 8 different does one of those days.
Over all it was probably a little slow for us. But reading on a couple sites, it appears the over all population of the deer heard is down compared to the past. I really am not so sure reducing the doe tags will help. Most hunters I know do not kill but 1 doe a year. So unless they stop the doe kills I dont think it would matter much.

Normal year for me in southern indiana. Seeing a fair amount of does and alot of immature buck's. Have seen 2 shooter's 130" plus but alot of 100" to 115" buck's. (Should be a good year for me next season.)

Deer numbers in the areas I hunt a way down. I hunt 4 different counties, (Harrison, Crawford, Perry, and Orange). I hunt public and private land. Deer numbers have been steadily declining where I hunt for the last few years. When you can slaughter antlerless deer in this state, I guess it had to be expected. Our regulations are a joke.

Real slow for me... It was warm and windy everytime I had the chance to hunt.

Another average season for me so far! Urban spots the same (Marion and Hendricks county), Clay County IN farms the same, military hunts (Big Oaks,Newport-Crane to follow 12/11) about the same, state park hunts (Shades X2) the same and my Missouri lease (bow and gun) better than average this year. Just another average deer season for me so far-same amount of sighting and seat time (alot). ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Good luck to all the rest of the season.

Seen more bucks than does for 2 years straight, but I generally try to hunt where I'll see bucks. Now that I have a buck I can adjust. The does are there. I've seen average numbers this year.
