Is it legal for me to kill a deer, tag/check it in, de-bone the meat, and then give the meat to a friend so they can have it processed for their own use? I am not selling the meat or anything, just helping out a friend.

That is completely legal. As a matter of fact, Indiana has just gotten involved in a new program called "Give IN Game". This program allows for people who do not hunt but would like venison to register at a website as well as hunters who have filled their own freezer but willing to harvest a deer and give it away to do so. The hunter must purchase the license, check the deer in as required and abide by all game laws but allows him to give the deer to someone who would use it. It is highly recommended that someone who participates in this activity or program provide the reciepient with some information about the deer such as the name of the hunter, where it was checked in, and metal tag number if not attached. The website describing this program is http://www.dnr.in.gov\giveINgame
