Where are all of these super flocks of migrating birds that DU announced we would be seeing this year?? Not much action in the north zone yet. Hope it gets cold and stays that way. Anyone had much luck? Total here is 9 mallards, 3 ringers, 11 woodies, and a handfull of honkers. Oh I almost forgot 36 water chickens ;D

Still early around here. We don't really see LOTS of birds until December/Jan. Greenwings and hollywoods are fairly thick though

I wouldn't expect them until at least late November early December. That's down here in South Zone. We've been hunting mostly local birds and greenwing migrators in central Indy since September.
3 Mallards and 3 Geese for me so far. Only hunted 3 times. Been focusing on putting some deer meat in the freezer. Looking forward to regular season here.

If there has been any signs of a migration I for one have not seen it except for the woods ducks that have left. There are plenty of geese around but the duck numbers are low............very low. The extended weather forecast for Thunder Bay,On is 40s all week long with no snow. I look to that area since killing several banded ducks over the years that were banded near there. I have a gut feeling that our duck season will happen late and quick.

Never thought about that but makes alot of sense. Took a honker last year banded at thunder bay.

I don't know where Coots hang out during the summer, but there are a lot on the local lakes now.

I believe they live at the bottom of lakes and when the lakes turn over in the fall they pop to the surface. They only migrate at night. HAIL THE CHICKEN OF THE SEA!

My buddy said he saw over 100 ducks at the farm. It looks like some migrators are showing up. Just in time for us to be out chasing deer!

Since I have not seen any ducks for over a week I thought I would take advantage of this warm day and try bass fishing at the pond..........my mistake. I saw about 400-500 ducks in flocks of 5 to 50 heading south,in addition I saw several large flocks of snows and blues which is unusual for my neck of the woods.

Well this morning I left the fishing gear behind and went out the blind ,it was raining hard with a strong SE wind. Not much happeneing at first light but about 2 hours later there once again was a push. I saw several hundred snows and blues along with about 15 high flying flocks of ducks, this lasted till about 10:00am. Ended the morning with 4 birds.

Been out every morning 5:30 until 11:00 or so for the past 4 days and have only taken 2 birds. A ringer and a hollywood. Did have a couple redheads sit just outside the dekes. Going to try a beaver pond in the am a try and take a couple local greenheads.

Thursday there was no signs of any migration push, managed to take 3 birds that were left over and that was it. Today saw about 6-8 high flocks heading south but no takers. DDragon whats the population look like at the Kank? have things improved any in the last few days?

They seen to shoot them up in one blind and not the next no set pattern. the normal hot blinds are not that hot. The corn this year sucks the blinds can been seen from the river they stick up with nothing around them. I've shot more birds at LaSalle this season then at the Kank and the 4 mallards were not shot at the Kank, I only shot 1 mallard at the kank mostly teal woodies and shovlers. Not the best of seasons so far.
