I bought a cheaply Moultries D55 trail camera from Bass Pro in September . I had it out in Illlinois and ALL my night time pics were black. Something was triggering the shutter but the flash did not go off. I checked the setting and it says that the flash is set to ON.
Any ideas or suggestions?
I've sent an email to Moultries and they have a 3 to 5 days response

I'd check the batteries. I had one do that last year, except every other picture at night was black. The rest were fine.

I put this camera on one piece of property on 8-18. 4 days later I got a fairly dark picture early in the morning. Dark enough that I think that the flash should have operated. On 8-30 I got 3 pictures that was totally black. I didn't think a whole lot about it then.
I then moved the camera to another piece of property on 9-24. Every night time picture is black. The camera still takes pictures if the light is good enough. It triggers in the dark but wont flash..

Not impressed with Moultries.
Sounds like you got a bad one.

I have an older model Moultrie IR camera and have had no problems with it. I just baought a new D55 IR and have no problems so far. I would just return the camera Woody. If the one you bought is just the D55, I would get the IR version to replace it. The battery life does not even compare to regular flash. I have read about a lot of different camera's and it is all the same good and bad responses for them.

Cost me almost as much in gas as the camera is worth....which in it's present condtion ain't much.

I Had the same problem Woody and for me it was the batteries. Even though I had fresh batteries they weren't duracell or energizer. Once I switched (as suggested by Moultrie customer service) it worked like new. I would have never guessed that there would be that much difference.

I boxed it up and sent it back to Moultrie telling them that a "no flash" camera was no good for me.
They sent back a new camera...

Woody,
I started building cams years ago because of the moultries. They were the first cameras I purchased and were very unreliable. My buddy purchased some of their less expensive modes and they seemed to work pretty well, but he was getting some "white out" pics, just like the moultries of old. How is the new one working out?

I haven't had a chance to put it out yet. I guess I should do that right way to see if this one is any good.
Deer cut the corner of the property behind me right at my fence so I'll out it up there and see what happens.
Thanks..

Yesterday evening I hung it on the corner of my yard facing the wooded area that deer use frequently. I waved my hand in front of it - IT FLASHED!
So far so good....
