Well as you all know, my dad and I were scheduled to hunt in Florida to complete our grand slams this past week and due to some health issues he couldn't go. My good buddy Dan, and I ended up going, I couldn't think of a better lifetime friend to go with on this trip. I ended up completing 2 grand slams! ;D Anyway we arrived on Sunday morning, got a rental car and drove to camp unloaded at the hunt camp. From the airport to camp I'd bet we saw over 100 birds in fields! Met up with Tim later in the afternoon to go to ranch where we'd be hunting at, and we saw 2 toms strutting and going up to roost, on Tim's ranch, which is actually his fater-in-laws property. Early the next morning we got up drove out to ranch and set up on the edge of an orange grove and it wasn't long before the 2 birds sounded off in the distance. We ended up having 6 long beards come up within 30 yards of us, niethier Danny or I could get a shot let alone get a double! After about 45 minutes they birds lost interest and moved off. That afternoon we set a new palmetto blind along the FL Turnpike at the end of 2 pastures where they come togeter like a pinch point for deer almost. Well not too long later 10 jakes came with 5 yards of us going to the other pasture. About an hour later a long beard starting coming in, and it was quickly decided that I would be the shooter, and I will not elaborate but my first shot of 2008 was miss! Then about another 1.5 hours later we had a whole group of about 10 hens and 4 or 5 long beards come in then they started to head to the pasture land to the east which in is on the other side of the FL Turnpike and they were heading towards the shade and the bridge with a canal going under it. I can't say I blame them 80+ degrees and shade/water? We quickly yelped and turned then...and we ended up getting a double on 2 good birds and all on video . It was awesome. We then retracted and went back to the car and then took pics of course and set up another palmeto blind close to where we thought the birds would be that we had worked off of the roost the day before but we were closing our distance down from where they roosted and where we were. Built that and then took off back to camp to celebrate! Next morning, we headed out early got set up in our new palmeto blind and we had it all going on we really didn't know what we couldn't see in orange grove was about 20-30 birds pitching down into this pasture, and yes we filmed it all! We saw 3 strutters together and we called and one just broke off and came to us on a string. He never gobbled once but he struted a half dozen times on his way over to find us the lonely hen and at about 25 yards I gave him a head full of #5's. This was a mere 7:37am! It was an awesome time and I had a great time with Tim, and man I met some backwards folks down there but all funny and down to earth people. I forgot to mention that this guy named Steve, RATSO took out Hank Parker, Billy Parker and Ben Parker and there video equipment to another ranch south of where we were hunting, but they stayed on the same hunt club property where we stayed. They are really nice people and Ben who isn't on there hunting show stayed in our cabin with us as the other was full. We talked to Hank, Sr (Jr. wasn't there) and Billy and Ben, Dan and I had a great time talking deer, turkey, etc with Billy especially. He (Billy) couldn't get over that hog tail for the world record Osceola......he was there and that is who I said yeah our beards look like that tail then well if you read the other thread you know what I'm talking about happened after that was said. Anyway here are some pictures for everyone to enjoy from hero shots to, scenery, etc.

Thanks, guys for all of your kind words.....
Tim-South Carolina....that is a poachers paridise 5 tags/5 birds each.....those things learn not to gobble in order to stay alive!! Good luck to you! I have never hunted there but I know folks who have, and well there are plenty of birds to have such a liberal limit but man do they get hunted is all I've heard! Good luck!
