William learned today how hard bowhunting can be, 2011 Youth deer hunt William was set on sticking a Rage through a Cage with his bow. he has been shooting absolutely great out to 25 yards, so I decided it was time.
We went to my turkey/deer spot where he killed that big tom this year. I have two ground blinds set up, one for evening, a big nice blind, the other for the morning which is a smaller cheap extra blind.
Well I didnt' know how crammed we'd be today and it was very hard. I had to have the camera in the window, when William drew he was right in the window.
He got a first hand lesson on how hard it is to kill a deer with bow off the ground.
had 2 young bucks and a button come out at 15-25 yards. HE drew and got set, he took his time and just as he was going to let it fly they took off. On the video the second one in line was looking at him as he drew and brought the bow up.
Then 30 minutes later 3 bucks came the opposite way, I made some turkey yelps and they came running. I didn't coach William through the whole shot and he drew early when they were 30 yards out and looking straight on. I was going to have him draw when they got into the opening and as broadside as they could. They took off too, stopped 65 yards out but not long enough for William to grab the gun LOL
Amazing the lead buck, a 1.5 yr old basket rack 8 pointer still was in velvet, which is RARE for Indiana.
He LOVED it, he said he understood why I LOVE it so much.
If we'd had a bigger blind where we could hide more in the shadows I believe he would have killed a deer today

We've had many more misses than kills here so far, but that's what makes the ones you get so special. Maybe tomorrow will be that day.
