Reserved turkey hunts cancelled at Atterbury military area
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Hunters can apply for another hunt before March 14 This spring’s reserved turkey hunts at Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Area in Johnson and Bartholomew counties have been cancelled because of conflicts with military training exercises. Hunters who have already applied for a reserved hunt at Atterbury JMTA will be able to reapply for an alternate reserved hunt.
The DNR offers reserved turkey hunting dates at 18 DNR properties and two national wildlife refuges during the 2008 spring turkey season. The reservation deadline is March 14.
The 2008 spring turkey season runs April 23 to May 11. Youth spring turkey season is April 19 and 20.
DNR turkey hunt reservations can be made online at wildlife.IN.gov.
Mail-in turkey hunt reservation forms are also on page 41 of the 2007-2008 Indiana Hunting and Trapping Guide, available at most sport license vendors and DNR property offices.
Reserved hunts are offered at Atterbury, Chinook, Crosley, Fairbanks Landing, Glendale, Hovey Lake, Hillenbrand, Minnehaha, Jasper-Pulaski, Kingsbury, LaSalle, Pigeon River, Tri-County, Willow Slough and Winamac fish and wildlife areas; Roush, Mississinewa and Salamonie lakes; and Big Oaks and Muscatatuck national wildlife refuges.

I drive through the base everyday and they are either building something new or clearing land to build something else all the time.

I really doubt it will be open for Deer Season,I read last season where A few hunters had ticked off some Brass. I think that was Crane. I called Atterbury last year during archery season and was told it was closed because of increased military manuvers. Maybe by this fall it will be open again. h.h.

My buddy runs range control there and last fall it was because of the number of soliders on base......nothing to do with brass. They will be opening depending on safety of the solders first, then the safety of hunters 2nd.
