Personally, I hunt with an Italian Spinone. Very few people have outside of the "dog world" have heard of them or hunted with them, but they are actually one of the oldest, if not the oldest, known pointing breeds. They're natural pointers, great retrievers, and easy to have in the house (minus the slobber). They don't shed, good with kids and other dogs, and are generally much more relaxed in the house than other sporting breed dogs. They do NOT respond well to some of the more traditional (harsher) training techniques such as force-fetch, ear pinching, ect. You'd be much more likely to ge the full potential from a spin (or any other dog if you ask me) with a more positive approach to training. I've put a few links below. The first is to a Spinone breeder I know near Louisville (has a lot of info about the breed), and the other two are links to books that I've found especially helpful for training my dogs. One is titled Ruff Love and the other is Positive Gun Dogs. Feel free to PM me of you have any questions about spins, other breeds, training, really anything related dogs. My wife and I are pretty deep in the "dog world". www.itspinone.com/ www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=DTA228www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=DHR230
