Last week I planted turnips in one of my plots. I wasnt going to because of the lack of rain we had in July. The ground was so dry I wasnt going to waste seed, fertilizer and gas on planting but we got 1 1/2" or rain last week so I planted. Last night we got another 3/4". The plot is oval and last year I had the turnips in the middle and wheat on both sides. This year the turnips are on the sides the wheat will be in the middle. I read somewhere turnips need to be rotated every other year because of a fungus they carry and the dont grow well if planted in the same spot each year. Good luck to all of you that planted plots this year. h.h.

We got 3/4" of rain over the weekend and that should really help the turnips. h.h.

I planted 2 acres the last day of July. They look great, about 3" - 4" tall, thick as can be.

How many pounds of seeds does it take to plant an acre? And where do you get your seeds from?
I planted a very small plot out back and filled in a spot with just turnip seeds I bought from a garden store. The kind you scoop out of a bin, not prepackaged but I know I was overpaying compared to where you guys buy if you are planting by the acre.
Thanks!

Mine is Shot Plot, turnips and rape mixed in a 4 lb bag. I believe it will plant 1/2 acre. Ive used this for the last several years. Walmart carried it last year. h.h.

I always seed heavy 8lbs or so per acre. Several on line sources where you can buy large quantities of food plot seed. A buddy and I split a 50# bag.
