Hello everyone! My name is Jim. I'm fairly new to hunting. I've had three years deer hunting with a good mentor and friend. Unfortunately, he has passed on.
This year I want to start small game hunting. I'm also interested in trapping. I'm looking to have some fun, learn a lot and hopefully learn enough that I can start a tradition with my sons.
I am located in Allen County (Fort Wayne). I am interested in learning trapping. If anyone needs another set of hands I am willing to trade labor for knowledge. I would love to have a mentor or even just make some friends and learn all I can.
My biggest fear right now is finding places to hunt. That may sound silly but I didn't grow up hunting. My dad and uncles could have cared less about hunting or the outdoors. The deer hunting I have done has been with my old friend on his property. Now that is no longer an option. I feel a bit overwhelmed when it comes ot finding spots to hunt. Public land? Ask to hunt? I'm not sure. That's esp true when it comes to trapping.
I'm equiped now with a Marlin .22WMR and 12g. I'm in th emarket for anything else I will need. If any of you have old gear and you are not using it or looking to upgrade, let me know. I may be able to help you out. :-)
Any and all advice is welcome. Also any pointers to resources is appreciated.
Nice to meet you!
