Guys we are looking for a place to possibly get a chocolate lab. It'll be a family pet, but I'd also like to get into waterfowl hunting so it'd be a hunting buddy too. Located in SW Ohio or SE Indiana. Thanks

I know a lot of guys don't agree with my method in obtaining a hunting dog, but I went to the Putnam Co. Humane Society and got a lab mix. He is a 3/4 lab 1/4 doberman who needed to be adopted. He has been the absolute best pet I've ever raised. He does pretty darn good in the field too. He's more of a pet than a tool. I've also never used an electronic shock collar. Alot of guys will tell you that it's all about genetics. Some of that is true depending what you want your dog to do. If you're wanting more of a tool for competitions and hardcore hunting then yes spend the money on a full breed, and do your homework on genetics. If you're wanting a dog to have as a pet that will hunt with you, than explore your options. There are LOTS of labs out there. There are even more puppies at shelters that need homes, and I've had a good experience with my mut. Put up some pics once you get your pup. Good luck! Here's Carter-

Check out Denney labs: denneylabs.4t.com/They are located in Ohio. We bought a female from them in April and they are great people.

hum@ne society is the last place i would consider. being as how i like to shoot critters. they are one of the single most outspoken groups against all forms of hunting. they would shut it all down tomorrow if they could. ...and they are trying!

The HSUS, the humane society of united states, is a scam and does not give any money to local shelters. They do give off the impression they are saving dogs, they are NOT. They would love to shut down farms and hunting, they are right up there with PETA. Because they show sad pictures of dogs people who don't know any better donate money thinking they are helping animals, when in reality they are buying into a huge political machine.
So please do not automatically think your local shelter is anything but trying to give dogs and cats a new home, generally they don't have the funds to close hunting down, or even worry about anything but taking care of animals that the owners allow to overbreed and roam. Taking care of other people's irresponsibility is a full time job.
