Unless alot of historically low harvest counties are up considerable I believe it will be down. I took my bird the last Wednesday of season. Mine was the 41st bird checked at the check station I use in Brown County. Comparablly they would normally have over 150 to 200 dirds by then. The lady that owns the country store keeps excellent records. This was the lowest total at this time of season since 1993 or 4 I can't remember.

Yes, Norma has a log of every bird checked in since 1985. She had 3 checked in that year. My first turkey was the first bird she ever checked in. That was openning day 1985.

Awesome. We always stop in there and get something to eat. Check out their bulletin board by the door and you'll see some of my cards, www.hoosierhitsquad.com. I do a majority of my deer hunting down there, and alot of turkey hunting also.

The harvest will most surely be down. It seemed to me that a lot of guys gave up early in the season in the area I hunt due to the lack of frantically gobbling 2 year old birds Oops! I failed to read all the posts in this thread before I replied to rdj's post. Sounds like you guys are real close to me down there. Norma's the best. Love that area, been deer and turkey hunting there for a whole bunch of years. Can't think of a more beautiful area in this state to hunt.

Down 10% range. A trend in many states this year due primarily to the lack of 2 year olds.

Down 10% range. A trend in many states this year due primarily to the lack of 2 year olds. That was my guess too. The bright spot is we saw a lot of jakes in our areas, both in Indiana and KY. These jakes even acted dominant, so they should be real full of themselves by next spring.

From my experience down south this year I want to guess about the same. I saw several Mature Toms EVERYDAY we hunted in OHIO and Switzerland Counties, plenty of Jakes to boot. One day during opening week we drove down to Vevay to look at some properties that were for sale, we counted over 85 birds while driving down a 5 mile stretch of back road running along the river. All told the trip from Bear Branch to Vevay we counted over 120 birds, Tough to say the numbers will be down with that kind of sightings. However after reading about everyone Else's experiences this season I guess I'll have to lean more twards down. Cant wait for the official numbers to be posted.

I voted about the same plus or minus 200. Number of Turkeys seen and heard were great in my neck of the woods.

Poor nesting success and poor poult survival rates over the past coupla years has the age ratio way out of whack. Most guys were mostly dealing with 3 Y.O.'s or older birds that typically don't gobble much and have been hunted in previous seasons. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and poult survival rates will be up this summer.

I know it will be up one from me this year as compared to last year. Yepper... That is where the rubber meets the road. I know the last few years I had become a little spoiled in that the birds seemed to come pretty easily. This year was different - I earned my bird.
