I put out some tree stake fertilizers and in a few days something dug them up and ate parts off them. Does anyone have any ideals what kind of critter it is?

My guess would be raccoon. Probably had some bone meal in them.

It also very likely could have been something after the salts in the fertilizers too. Raccoon, possum, skunk, take your pick.

I have had the same issues in the past, it is coons. Strakes must have fish meal or something that the critters like mixed into them.
Throw a little 12/12/12 around the trees.

My guess would be deer. I bore holes to apply fertilizer to some apple trees and two days later something dug up the fertilizer and ate it. This was in the spring when the ground was wet and you could see the deer tracks at each hole. Deer are proficient diggers when they want to be. h.h.
