Is there any lakes in Indiana that you can not bowfish such as state park lakes? Just wondering because your not aloud to hunt in alot of state parks but thought bowfishing was considered fishing? Thanks

I was actually asking a question similar to this in the other section in these forums. I was kicked out of Potato Creek State Park today because I was going to go bowfishing. I read off of indiana's DNR site that it is legal to use a gun or bow in the lawful taking of game on state owned properties including state parks. I plan on challenging what happened today. I am researching it right now. I suppose it is completely up to the park manager's discretion. Kinda bull if you ask me considering as a tax payer that park is partially mine....

read again. you can not use bow and arrow on many state parks lakes. illegal on summit lake state park, westwood state park etc.
yes its bowFISHING but it takes a BOW and ARROW thereby not allowed.
I agree its assinine, especially since the arrow is tethered to the bow

I'd love to see some statistic of fishing lure accidents vs bowfishing accidents... I guess the decision comes down to the park manager. Which sucks because he is more of a business man opposed to an outdoorsman. Thats the problem with the DNR...

"aloud" is correctly spelled allowed. I think it could depend on what you are shooting at. Didn't Potato Creek just stock rainbow trout? That might be Potato Creek's concern? With Bow fishing there is no catch and release if you get the wrong fish. I am sure there is a real reason if you ask. We have a problem here locally with bowfishing and people just dumping the fish, which is fine if you are shooting carp, but don't leave them lay there to smell up the entire fishing spot. Carp makes a great fertilizer. I think bowfishing for junk fish is a great way to spend the time and could be benefical to the parks if people approached them the right way. Oh and not all parks allow regular fishing either. It drives my 11 yr old crazy he can't fish at the Indiana dunes state park.

Even if they do stock trout there, all the more reason to allow bowfishing in that creek. You get hundreds of mature sized carp in a well confined area they are going to get hungry and wipe out any nest they see. Carp do make great fertilizer, I make posts on craigslist for people wanting my fish. I hate illegal fish dumping also.
