This logger is a ripoff guy. Mother-in-law has a sighned contract for $28,800 with him. He showed up yesterday saying there wasn't as much timber as he thought and offered her $8800 and wanted to tear up the contract!!!!!!! BS we are getting attorney. Said he has a year to pay the balance. Some people give a profession a bad name and this outfit is an example. He's gonna wish he had just paid the contract amount before this is all said and done.

Sounds like a lot of legal hassle in the future.
Every acre you put into classified forest costs you $1.00 a year in taxes. Any acres you sell they go back 5 years and you pay the difference in taxes. Saves money on taxes if you plan owning the property for many years. h.h.

boonechaser, if he's got new equipment, he should know what he's doing - he's got to pay for that new equipment somehow. That $20K will go a ways to do that if you let him.
I'd make sure that in the atty. paperwork somewhere it says that if the logging company loses, they also have to pay your atty costs and all other expenses related to the case.
I hate slimeballs like that.

One good thing is that the harvest will increase the cover and food for your deer. The Classified Forest Program will decrease the assessed value of the land to $1.00/acre then you pay taxes against that $1.00/acre, this usually works out to .05-.30 cents/acre. Now may be the time to get a consultant forester involved and the Timber Licensing Forester from IDNR involved, give him a call at (317) 232-4105. In order to buy timber the buyer has to have a bond that you may be able to go against.

Yes the guy is bonded. We have contacted attorney and attorney has sent notice to logger that he is expected to honor his contract or face lidigation. (So we are waiting for a response.) I'm sure he did'nt think this little ole lady would'nt sue him, but he underestimate's my mother in law. LOL!!! I'll let you all know how it turn's out. Thanks for all the information.

I hope that somehow you can word it so that he has to pay for your mother-in-laws atty fees and related expenses if it goes any further.

Logger settled with my neighbor for tree's he ACCIDENTLY cut on him. 7 tree's offered $300 ended up paying neighbor $1,000 and neighbor kept 3 tree's that they had not pulled out of wood's yet. Still waiting to see what's gonna happen with M-I-L.
