License finder tool now availableThe Sport License Finder tool will help hunters find the types of licenses or stamps needed to pursue certain sport activities. Just answer 3 simple questions; Sport, Age, Residency. The search results will display the licenses or stamps available, with some other options/requirements. If you've ever been unsure of what licenses you need, this tool will help. This tool is only a guide, it doesn't represent the full rules and regulations for hunting, trapping, or fishing. Please see the Hunting & Trapping Guide or the Fishing Guide for specific regulations. The tool can be found here www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/6486.htm

Thanks Woody............I was told by DNR at hunter ed class that we only needed a youth license for my boys, but when I went to Walmart last weekend they said I had to buy regular deer licenses for them. The search clearly says deer is included on the youth hunt license. Great buy for $7 each!

They do not take the opportunity to find associates who have some knowledge about the area they work, nor do they rquire/request that those associates learn anything relative.

Very true !! When it comes to Walmart those associates in the sporting goods section rarely ever know the rules and regulations when it comes to hunting and fishing !!
I went in there to get an archery license before you were able to buy them online and the guy behind the counter began to fill the paper tag out for me, when it got to the license type he ask what I wanted I replied Archery and then he ask BUCK OR DOE ?
I told him that with an archery tag I dont have to specify the sex of the animal until after I harvest a deer, meaning the archery tag is good for one of either sex. Thinking that he would agree with me to my surprise he did not agree and repeated Buck or Doe ? I then told him again that I didnt have to specify I wanted an archery tag.
There was a guy behind me that agreed with me and we both tried to explain the tag to him again. He told me to my surprise if I didnt tell him Buck or Doe then he would not sell me the tag !!!
I had to locate the tag section in the DNR book laying on the counter to prove to him in writing from the DNR publication that I indeed did not have to check buck or doe on the archery tag ! I couldnt believe that the associates did not even read the booklets that are readily available on their own counter to familiarize themselves with tags if they didnt know them.
I had another issue with the same associate when purpchasing a resident fish license when the address on my drivers license didnt match the one I gave him for the tag. I had just moved a couple weeks prior so I had not had time to change my drivers license info.
He said he wouldnt sell me a resident license without a proof of address in the form of a bill from the new address ! The thing was I hadnt moved from out of state or even out of the county !! Both my previous and current address were from Floyd County, IN !!
Luckily I am able to purchase my tags and licenses from the DNR website now and no longer have to deal with the Walmart associates. I left without a fishing license that day and stopped at a deer check station on the way to the lake and got my resident fish license from them lol.
I usually have the same kind of issue with associates not knowing anything about the stuff they deal with everyday when I go to Home Depot but thats a whole different story Lol. Good Luck to you all this season !!!

Wow, a new low........and yet all these Walmarts are adding guns back to their stores. Gee they figured out guns sell, duh. If the associates don't know basics of licenses, how the heck can they sell guns?! We once went to Dunhams and they refused to show us guns because their "gun specialist" wasn't there..........why bother selling if you cannot train your staff?

They told a friend of mine last year he had to buy his small game license before he could buy a deer license. Also later last year they said he had to buy a regular license before he could buy a antlerless.

You get some dandies in all retail stores. I was looking at one of those Saiga (sp?) semi-auto 20 gage tactical shotguns at a Dunhams in Anderson several years ago. The young man I was dealing with tells me I couldn't use a semi-auto shotgun to hunt with in Indiana. When I told him that was not the case he got noticably upset and said "What the H do I know, I've only hunted my whole life in Indiana and that's what my dad told me." I handed the gun back to him and left. It would have only been better if he had said he read it on the Internet!
So, it isn't always the WalMart that provides good examples.
