This is what I had around me all morning today. When I first saw the jake coming I thought "Longbeard!" Nice big jake though with a stubby little beard. You cant see it here but one of the hens had a beard bigger than his. She sported a 4 to 5 inch beard. This has been my season -- jakes and hens galore. Longbeards almost are non-existant. The line across the jake is a small weed that was about 5 feet from the blind. This was little over 100 yards with a 10X zoom.

I was surprised it a came out that good myself as I did not have it on a tripod.
Not exactly magazine quality like some that I have seen on here, but good enough for me.
It is an Olympus C-770 Ultra Zoom. 10X Optical.

The real question Woody...... if that jake had been at 20 yards, would you have dumped it???

The real question Woody...... if that jake had been at 20 yards, would you have dumped it??? I had him and the hens at 40 yards a couple times this morning. No, I'm holding out for a long beard or it's tag soup. Over 30 years of hunting them I have had a lot more tag soup years than longbeard or jake years. Now the bearded lady just might catch a broadhead come this fall. She got a pass this time as she might be expecting...

Hey Woody, That's a pretty good picture, especially at 100 yds. I was thinking of buying that camera a few years back. It had the best optical zoom on the market at that time (excluding DSLR). I hope you don't mind, but I took a minute (literally) and edited that "weed' out of your photo. I also adjusted the contrast a bit to help bring out the colors. There's a lot you can do with a photo program. Robert

Thanks Robert, I am very happy with the C-770. I shot about 800 pics on my vacation trip to Alaska and got a some great shots of a ma grizz and two cubs on a caribou bull that was about 400 yards away. That was a close as I wanted to get to her. hoosiertaxidermist, The one hen did have somewhat lighter wings, but not a lot. That was the bearded lady. The sun wasn't hitting them yet then. Here she is again...
