I'm wanting to buy a PCR. And to be quite honest the rules/laws are just as cloudy as baiting here in Indiana. I'm guessing i'm gonna go with a .44 rem mag, but open to any and all suggestions. That being said, i do not reload or handload at all, and probably won't be anytime in the near future. I've looked at and handled a rossi lever in .44 rem mag, felt pretty good. Any thoughts?

The Rossi Lever Action is a good rifle, as I have one in .44-40. BUT you can't mount a scope on it. I think the best .44 Magnum rifle available today would be the Ruger Model 77/44 or if you are into Lever Actions, then you might consider a Marlin. You can mount a scope on both models. There are also several brands of single shots available too.

Unless you want multiply shots then take a look at the NEF or H&R Handi Rifles. Single shot and are very accurate for the money which is around $250.00. The .44 mag is a very good choice for a PCR. h.h.

Actually, the rules on PCR's are quite clear. The .44 Magnum is an excellent choice indeed. As far as the reloading aspect goes, quite a few posts over on the Marlin board that state more than adequate accuracy is obtained with Winchester White Box 240gr. ammo. Just be willing to spend enough money to mount a good scope. I put one of the first Large Loop Levers on mine when Wild West Guns was working up prototypes due to the demand, put on a Nikon 2.5x10 scope on top [the 10 power kept me from busting a short horned forky [in the brush] twice when I had already laid down a nice 10 pointer]. Took the ugly linseed finish off the factory stock, put on a home made beeswax finish, did away with the cross bolt safety, and put in a WWG trigger which made my groups even smaller. If you think for one minute that the prices are high today, wait until all this silliness with the economy really kicks in after a few years, it will seem pretty darn cheap. A lot of folks have got a Marlin 1894 in .357 [also a killer] and load up a pile of light cast bullet load in .38 special so their kids can enjoy shooting Dad's deer rifle.

Go for the .44 mag. Jason. I have had excellent accuracy & knockdown results with the Hornady "LeverEvolution" rounds in my lever gun.
