Well with the kids baseball and softball seasons winding down I now have a little time on my hands and will be getting out to the woods some to spray and clean up some area's. Was out there last Sunday and between the three of us we had to have had over 100 ticks on us. So was thinking what if there was a spray out there to kill ticks. Could I mix it with my grass and weed killer to also kill the ticks? So thought I would ask on here because there are some smart guy's on here that probably know the answer to that question. I know once I spray and the grass and weeds die I shouldn't have as much a problem with ticks but was just wondering. We had a bad problem with ticks in our area last year. I know we killed four deer out of our woods last year that all had ticks on them even up to the first week of December. When we hung the deer the ticks were falling off of them. So does anyone have a clue if there is something otu there that I can use? Thanks BB

Woody would this stuff also do the job? www.ruralking.com/termite-and-ant-control-1-2-gal.htmlI'm just having my brother pick me up a back pack sprayer at rural king and thought maybe he could pick some of this stuff up as well. Most of the reviews I've read for some of this stuff says it kills for 2-3 weeks. Does this stuff work better? Thanks BB

Malathion is a kill-by-contact chemical, so if you decide to use it make sure you have good coverage with the spray.

Diazonion, is about the best to use to control ticks and othe pests, but unfortunaely it is No longer available, due to EPA rulings. Orthane & Chlordane, are both good sprays too, but both are also banned by the EPA. Since they (The Government) have taken away these & other insect control sprays; the insect problem has become worse & so have Diseases carried by Tick, Mosquitos, ect. We need these chemicals sprays back!!

Malathion is not banned, just bought 2 qts. of it at the hardware store. It will kill on contact but is also good for forming a barrier in your yard or house that last over 30 days regardless of the weather. Obviously, you can't spray the whole world with it, but you can spray the most used areas of your property and control lots of insects and some reptiles. Sprayed around your house, you won't have snakes trying to get in. As with all chemicals, read the label before use.

I was actually thinking about Orthane. <Sorry>

I sprayed my clothing and my turkey blinds and the ground inside my turkey blinds with the Carpenter Ant and Termite Killer diluted to .05 percent. In 20 days of turkey hunting I never picked a tick off of me. Working in the backyard I have picked three off of me in the last week. What can I use in my backyard that is non-toxic to my cats?

Permethrin is probably the best I have found that actually kills ticks. It will kill about anything that crawls or flies also. It is very toxic to bees. We live in an old 2 story farm house that we remodeled and have had problems with spiders and those little lady bugs in the spring and fall. They literally swarm our white house. I mixed up about 15gallons of permethrin and sprayed around all the windows and up in our attic and any place I thought a lady bug may live through the winter and then sprayed about 2 acres of my yard and it made a huge difference for all bugs that we have had problems with. I think it has even helped with skeeters. I just hope I didn't take out to many bees by doing it. I try very hard not to go into the woods while ticks are active without spraying my clothing with a mixture of it. It works better that the pre mixed sprays that cost a fortune at sporting goods store.

I spray for ticks with liquid sevin. Costs about 80.00 for 2 1/2 gallons of spray and it makes about 200 gallons of spray. h.h.
