My mom's cousin has a .45 colt lever gun he said he would sell me. Would this make a good deer gun? Max range? Just any other info i should? Thanks.

Yes it will be a good deer gun. The range will vary with the ammo you use but it will kill out to 150 yards or less. Dont use cowboy loads for hunting, use ammo made for rifles. h.h.

That would be a very fun deer rifle; even though there are rounds out there like Buffalo Bore, that is a round that it is very useful to be a reloader for.

On a few other hunting forums, some use .44-40's for Deer Hunting & they use handloads to "beef" up the power. So the .45 Long Colt would be fine with the right bullet & load for hunting Deer under 150 yards.

The .45 is an awesome round for deer. Larger than the .44 mag, you can use heavier bullets, and you can push it just as fast. 250 grain bullets moving rather slow will do the trick fine and this is a great round for reloaders.

Not cheap at all! I haven't checked in a while, but I am going to say comparable to a .44 mag.

Buffalo Bore is $80 for 50. The hot rod loads are $$$$
