What to do?
I've been checking out this Ruger for a while. I have a price of $617 from a good friend who also owns a gun shop. I've seen these on the net at gunbroker, able, etc. for $590 and some times a little less with shipping adder about $30.
I don't plan on buying on line so I wondered if the $617 (plus tax) was a good price. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you have answered your own questions.
Sounds like a competive quote when you add the shipping plus the inevitable transfer fees. At 617 you have no shipping and no transfer fees plus you don't have to buy online.
win/win/win
20 or 25 bucks isn't enough to squabble over when you consider your local shop/friend is always there when you need them and will take care of any warranty issues you might have. They have overhead to pay unlike many of the online "shops".

I purchased my Ruger Model 77/44, with a walnut stock, back in 1999 and paid $350 for it (New).
