The little piece of property I own in Miami co has been one frustration after another this year. I now have found 7 mushroom hunters on my property since turkey season opened. But the last 2 may have helped my turkey season.
Saturday I was shocked to see 2 women headed right toward my blind with a bag of mushrooms each. I stepped out of the blind to again face some shocked trespassers. They looked very scared as I approached them full camo and shot gun slung over my shoulder. I sat the gun against a tree before I finished going up to them, I actually felt a little bad I scared them so much lol.
I was shocked in return when one of them before I could say a word, said are you Mr. Griffey? I said yes...? She said Im Regina. (the landowner to my East whom Ive never met face to face but talked with on the phone.) After some small talk about property lines she asked what I was hunting. Seems they had no clue turkey season was in season. Which I believe. I cautioned them that red white and blue in the woods during turkey season wasn't safe. One had on a blue sweat shirt and the other had on a red and white shirt! They were again shock to hear such tom foolery (pun intended)
After some more small talk she asked about my luck which I explained had not been good. The birds won't come into the woods as far as my property and more often than not hang up on the field edge on the far side of her property. Much to my surprise she without hesitation said well go over there and hunt em! No one turkey hunts on me so your more than welcome to. COOL!
So this morning I did. had 4 different birds gobbling on the roost. 2 close 2 far off. One of the close ones committed. Coming to within about 60 but he was down in a big wide ravine and wouldn't come up on the ridge I was on. 60 is too far for me especially thru the woods. He finally grew tired of our little game and headed off the other direction. Not knowing this property very good I thought I could circle around him and get in front of him in the ravine and let him walk right to me. Unfortunately the ravine panned out and he decided to come up onto the ridge as I was circling him and he busted me.
It was a fun morning and I will give em a try again hopefully in the morning.
