I got an opportunity, very short window today, to buy a Taurus M669, 4" SS wood grips and some sort of gold medallion in the grip. I know next to nothing about it. The guy wants $150 for it. Is it a good firearm and is it a good buy? The model number lookup indicates a manufacture date of 1988. Thanks in advance for the help!

I bought a new one with 6.5" barrel for $350 in 92. I installed pachmayr grips on it which really made it feel a lot better. It was a good shooter and I wish I never got rid of it.

Thanks for the reply. I went thru with the transaction and its in my safe now. I did run 5 rounds thru it and hit a jug at 18yds 3 of 5 shots so I think it will be a good one.

They have a poor reputation for customer service but for $150 I think I would have gone for it as well - congrats.

Same here, Dave, as long as it looked in good condition and everything seemed operable. At the very least it could be flipped for a few bucks if you don't like it.

I checked timing, cylinder play and clearance from cylinder to bore and everything looked really good. No noticeable flame burn on the top strap either, I think it had been shot very little. While I am no revolver expert I kinda thought $150 was a no brainer given the condition of the piece.

HM: I think you did very well! I have a friend who owns a 669 SS 4"(probably similar to yours) and he paid $300 for it used because a friend needed the cash. He felt it was no bargain but the gun was like new and he wanted it. We took both his gun and my Ruger GP100 to the range and fired both for comparison. Obviously, I love my GP (especially with a trigger job) but we could not find a thing wrong with the 669. It compared very favorable and I was impressed. No great details to the testing-just wanted to get a general comparison.
IMO - $150???!!! You did REAL good!
