I know I've made quite a few posts on this site about feral hog hunting in S. IN. I've worked for years trying to make contacts, asked many questions and have always ran into brick walls when actually getting real information.
I think I've finally asked the right friend of a friend of a friend and finally a place! Will be going for a "meet and greet" visit this weekend. Since it IS on private property I will have to keep the exact area under my hat, but I will try to inquire about possibilities for others. Who knows if the right foot gets in the door then maybe a few other areas may open up?
Just trying to let you all know that perservance does pay off.

About the only hint I can give on the location is that I've actually been under this guys property on a Boy Scout caving trip...kind of funny when I was trading emails with him to find out that I've been there but haven't been!

Got a pretty good look at the property- well as much as I could of over 400 acres of hills and hollows in about 8 hours Saturday. Found some fresh tracks but not a whole of fresh feeding sign. The landowner says that they usually have a baited area down in the river bottom land but it's under several feet of water right now. I think I'll wait for the waters to get back within the banks and see if that helps get them concentrated a little more.
I certainly had a good time hiking and looking around though, sure was good to get out and enjoy some different scenery.

I wish you the best of luck but with extensive land access and years of crawling around these hills at night... I'm pesimistic about Indiana hog hunting. IMHO, Indiana has 200 hogs and 10,000 supposed hog hunters. Its not hard to find a group of guys that run bait, lights and blinds but I've yet to see hide nor hair of a hog dead or otherwise.
I'd be glad to get you some more land access in areas that supposedly have hogs but I wouldn't feel right suggesting you drive 4hrs to try and find one. They do exists... just like the highly publicized lion... but it'll be tall odds to cross paths. Good luck!

Good luck with them.
They are not hard to find if they are using an area. They will leave sign. Most can not tell the difference between a deer track and large hog track. Killing them is pretty easy, just keep the wind in mind all the time.

Just so you know hog tracks are more rounded and not as pointy as a deer track. They can be confusing at times so look carefully. Heres some good info on identifying them. www.texasboars.com/trapping/signs.html Good luck, h.h. |

GS and HH-been around enough tracks of both while hunting them in SC that it doesn't take me very long to get back in tracking mode when I know both are around...I definitely found hog tracks last Sat but unless you can find where they're feeding and/or bedding getting a shot at one is still a hit or miss proposition no matter where you are.
JRB-I'd much rather take a four hour drive for a weekend hunt than have to drive the 12+ hours it's been taking to get to SC for hunting there too....notice I said "hunt" because anytime they're not in a fenced and maintained operation there is no guarantee on even seeing one!

Thread is a little old, but I live in Texas now, originally from Brownsburg. I am coming home for Christmas and will be bringing my hog dogs with me (boarding is outrageous). If anyone has land that has pigs on it, I will be more than happy to take the dogs out with you. No guns, we will finish them with knives. But seriously, I will be around and it will allow me to get back in the woods in my home state. I will post some pics up of my recent kills here in South Texas. If there are hogs in the area, I am pretty confident my dogs will have them bayed up and we can go in with the catch dogs and finish the job. Let me know.

Have you tried asking around Leesville or Buddha. I have family out there that hunt hogs. They are plentiful in those areas.
