...particularly for handgun use, protection, and self defense.
deerdude recently posted a good topic on the purchase of a handgun which reminded me that I really need to go through a good course. Do any of you have a good recommendation or suggestion (especially in central Indiana)?

You may want to give a call to John Hall. He conducts NRA certified rifle, pistol, shotgun, and personal protection courses. He also conducts widely recognized Utah concealed carry permit safety classes. He has a very nice, personally owned, outdoor range that he uses as part of his classes. He is located in northwestern Morgan County near Eminence. I believe his phone number is 317-681-4099.

A couple of my buddies belonged to Marion County Fish and Game on the west side of Indy, and they use to offer NRA instructed courses. Pretty nice range. Just not open to center fire rifles. At least that's what I recall from their comments.
btw, this range is on Crawfordsville Road just east of Girl's School Road.

I heard that Marion County Sheriff or the Police dept. there offers a 2 or 3 day personal protection class. Its taught by one of the instructors from Gunsite in AZ. I think they recommend bringing 400 rounds. I belive it's only held once or twice a year.

My buddy sent me a link to the info and I can't find the e-mail. I'm waiting for him to resend it. It'll probably be later on tonight. O.K. I have it. That's what I get for trying to do stuff by memory. Not Gunsite. Here's the link to their website. They put on classes all over the country it seems: www.yfainc.com/courses.htmlI have never taken a class, so if I were to take one I would start out by taking Tactical Handgun - Stage I It looks like they only have one Stage 1 course this year in Indiana, August 16-18th. While it isn't cheap, my buddy, who is well versed in self defense/tactical training said it's well worth the $$ spent if you ever get in a situation.
