What is the order they come up. Pecker Heads, greys/whites, blacks? Pecker Heads were hot and heavy last Wed-Monday. Not many last few days though

parrothead, I have always found them in this exact order you mentioned of 1. Pecker Heads-2. Blacks-3. Greys and then last but not least 4. Yellows (the best)!!!! With a great deal of cross over in-between. I went this morning and found about 35 greys and another big batch of fresh pecker heads, so I hope the yellows will be coming up soon here in central Indiana. That way next week I can get back to turkey hunting (opening day next Wed.) and forget about these shrooms till next year!!!

Made a quick trip to the woods after work & found 20 real nice Yellows. They seem to have peaked this past week in my neck of the woods.

Kennie, I know its a little late now but here's how I freeze them. 1. Cut them in half. 2. Soak them in salt water for about a half an hour. 3. Rinse and let dry for a couple min. 4. Shake in a bag with breading of your choice, I use just flour. 5. Place in a single layer on a cookie sheet and place in the freezer for about an hour. 6. Take them out and put them in a freezer bag and then back to the freezer. 7. Throw them in the deep fryer when your ready for them.

Did notice the grease needed to be a little hotter than normal. I assume because of the temperature difference in fresh and frozen morels.

With this warm Spring, what time do you think they'll start to show in the northern part of the state?
