I just got this combo after many months of contemplation, conversation, and getting advice from y'all here. Now if I can just get a chance to get out and do some plinkin'. My buddy George (owner of Tippecanoe Sport Shop) in Lafayette spent quite a bit of time helping me set this up. I went with the Redfield Revolution 3x9-40 and the Burris Signature rings. I really like what I see - now to just try her out with some different ammo/loads! Here is what surprised me the most. I wear progressive lenses (bifocals) and I was amazed how many scopes just wouldn't work with my prescription eyeglasses. The Redfield gave me the quickest and clearest visual. I think we tried every scope in the store - Nikon, Leupold, Bushnell, BSA, Simmons and I forget what else. Even more surprising - next to the Redfield came the Simmons and BSA!

Just got in from the the maiden shots fired from the new Savage using the 17 gr Hornadys. Had to make a quickie target using a Sharpie, bottlecap and some paper in my trunk. This was obviously a bit impromptu. I couldn't believe it! Here is the first 5 shots fired from the gun at 50 yds with some wind today. I have never had such success shooting a gun new out of the box (thanks to George's setup) as with this gun. Absolutely beautiful! I shot these 5 rounds and then headed to or woods as I had about a half hour to spare. Knocked down 2 fox squirrels with the next 2 rounds! The first was a head shot and the second was a "body" shot. So...I learned a little lesson there...only head shots from here on:
