Curious about the hunting in the area. Im graduating in May and will be working at CVS in Loogootee and Washington. Looking to move to the Martin county area and may seek out some bowhunting spots. Looks like land is not too high, good timber as well. Looking at a house this weekend that backs up to HNF...hope it goes well.

I use to hunt on private property in Northern Martin County, back in the 1970's. The property was right up to the Southern boundry of Crane NWS. Don't know if it is still owned by the same family, but it was a neat woods to hunt in, but according to the owner there was a lot of poaching going on there at the time. Had another farm I hunted Squirrels near Glendale F&W area but never saw many Deer there.

There are NO deer or turkey in Martin county....take my word for it. I am certain there are more Deer & Turkey up in Martin County, Indiana. When I hunted Deer up there in the 1970's I saw very few, mainly due to what the Landowner told me about poaching. I never harvested a Buck, in my many trips, up there from Evansville. I harvested my very first Deer ( 130 LB Doe) at Crane back in 1977.

I hunt north of Loogootee. The area seems to have enough deer to see something on almost every outing, but I have only seen 2 or 3 does in the last two years. All kinds of small bucks. As I am out for the meat, I used to concentrate on getting a doe or two and was content to not shoot a buck. In this area, I have to take a button buck to get my meat. I usually do not try to shoot buttons, but with what I have seen in the woods the past two years, I may be doing it again next season.
