Is it any better than the now legal 458 socom? I would love to hear from someone who has used both.

I haven't used anything but the .458 SOCOM. I can tell you that the .458 SOCOM uses rifle bullets (.45-70), while the .450 Bushmaster uses handgun bullets (.45 ACP). I would trust a rifle bullet at higher-than-handgun velocities.

I'm pretty certain the .450 can also use the same bullets as the .460 S&W, which will push the same or higher velocities as the Bushy. Regardless, Hornady offers the FTX component bullets for the .450, so I'm certain they are made for the velocities that the .450 is capable of obtaining.

jajwrigh has a .450 I believe. I don't know if he reloads for it or not.

I do indeed have one. I haven't reloaded for it yet, but it will be more than sufficient for deer! The 458 socom can shoot much heavier bullets and they are a true rifle bullet, so they are also more than sufficient for deer. Hornady makes a bullets or two for reloading and one factory round for the .450. Remington actually has one factory offering as well. The gun comes with a factory brake, so it kicks like a 20 gauge but it is sure a fun round to shoot. Danf can attest to this as well. We did a little shooting together before he made his migration north.
