I’m trying to figure out what type of optic I’m going to put on my 1894 for next season. What do you guys think are some of the pros and cons when it comes to using a scope, red dot, and ghost ring? What are you guys using on your 44s?

For a rifle in .44 magnum, I'd mount a Leupold 2-7X33 mm "Shotgun/ML scope with heavy duplex.

Bad choice, the shotgun scopes have the paralex set for 75 yards. the Leupold is a good choice as is the varible power 2 x 7, but make sure you get the rifle verson on a rifle.

For a rifle in .44 magnum, I'd mount a Leupold 2-7X33 mm "Shotgun/ML scope with heavy duplex. This is what I have on my Ruger carbine. The power range is an ideal match for the cartridge IMO. The shotgun scope has a 75 yd. parallax rather than the 100 yd. of the rifle scope which helps with the closer shots I often get at deer. If you anticipate all your shots out past 75 yds, then by all means go with the rifle scope. If you anticipate the possibility of shots 50 yds or less, go with the shotgun version.

Mine wears a Leupold Compact 2-7X30ish (not sure if it is 30 or 33) rifle scope. I think it fits the rifle well. ![](http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/HuntMeister1/P10400921894Medium.jpg)

That's 1/2 price and it gets very good reviews. I've actually been thinking about getting one for one fof my AR's.

I have a 1-4x Leupold VX II, that has been on my Marlin Guide Gun, for several years. It is a heavy duplex shotgun scope. I've killed hogs, in Texas, out to 200 yds., with that rig, and used it in Africa, in 2008. It's going on my ruger no. 1, for my trip back to Africa, this summer. Never saw much difference in the use of the scopes, despite the parallax difference. I have no issues with shotgun scopes on rifles out to say +/- 200 yds. maddog

Curious, why the BDC on a short range rifle with a PBR of 225 yards, which is about the kill range if the cartridge at factory specs?

I just finished my AR build and installed the scope this past weekend so I haven't shot it yet, but here are my first impressions:
Pros very clear and bright small size Light weight well constructed lifetime warranty
Cons The only thing I can think as a con is that I would prefer a 40 mm lens instead of the 32 mm but then you likely lose the compact size and light weight.
For a mount I went with an M&A Parts one piece mount which is reasonably priced and very robust but very heavy (the mount probably weighs as much or more than the scope. I let you know how it all performs on the hog hunt in a few weeks.
