I'm moving to Lafayette this summer, so I'm already cruising the boards to try to get a picture of the hunting scene in Indiana. I saw an article on pheasant hunting on islands in areas that receive a lot of hunting pressure. Looking at Willow Slough on Google Earth, it seemed like this tactic could work there. Just wondering if 1) the water is shallow enough to wade out to the islands, and 2) if there is even enough wild birds to mess with it. Let me know what you think. I'll post the article if anyone is interested and if I can figure out how to do a hyperlink.

A lot of the areas you see as islands on GE are in a refuge or duck hunting area. The historical 'best' upland areas at Willow Slough are located north of W 100 N. There used to be quail all over, but they have been harder to find, though improved slightly this year. Best pheasant hunting is located on the Kankakee Sands area just outside of Willow Slough. Those properties are drawn for and hunted on a rotational schedule. I've had many good hunts at WS through the years. Always fun to read articles... just paste the address from your browser. As an example, here is a link to this message. huntingindiana.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=uplandbirdsandhuntingdogs&thread=36035&page=1

Thanks ski. I have to look into the drawing for the reserved hunts when I get there.

Drawings are daily at 0700 at Willow Slough HQ. TNC properties east of 41 are hunted on even days, west of 41 on odd days.
