Ive been looking, for those of you that didnt see other posts, at multiple ML guns to choose one for the NEXT 25 years.
Ye ol Renegade will still be in service but Ive a yen for new and improved yet so many "almost" fit the bill...yet dont.
If you have input on ideas YOU would incorporate into a long time muzzleloader based on use of your own or others, I would appreciate considering them.
A bit of info that runs through my noggin. (Yeah I tend to "over think" things, lol)
I LOVE the looks of the Austin & Halleck but
A. no longer in production (kinda a plus except for PARTS no longer available from an extinct mfg.)
B. It IS one HEAVY sonovagun, like my Renegade is.
As Ive gotten older, I flat wear more clothes hunting and am finding ALL guns have too dang long of LOP for me to shoulder the gun efficiently/quickly and is a PIA, to me, and a big one.
I like several things about the CVA Accura, except they wont even talk to me about a shorter stock and NOT sure how synthetic stocks lend themselves to being whacked off. Search as I may, I find no WOOD stocks for ANY of the break open ML except the "I cannot freakin afford one" Encore that would need a "trigger job" for me anyway. Ive shot em.......not at all impressed with the trigger. Just me, obviously tons of people love em.
Trigger pull comes into play for me, big time. I HATE heavy triggers and have MISSED deer with guns with them and don't need ANY help doing so from any gun, TYVM.
In THIS area, while the accu-trigger sounds doable so looking at those guns. Also the Rem 700 ML DOES accept after market timney triggers, DOES have after market WOOD stocks (with a little DIY work). Problem comes up again in the $$$$ area.
The TC Impact is the ONLY ML I see on the market with a spacer to remove for colder days/ more clothes hunting. IMHO, ALL the mfgs need to take a long, long look at that single factor. Funky looking (is this even doable with gloves on?) hammer IMHO.
Odd though it may be, the electronic ignition (NO dang caps or primers needed) of the CVA Electra leaps into the game and is now available pretty reasonable (also discontinued and an email sent to CVA about FUTURE parts/warrantee due to this).
The LACK of caps, and NOW ignition with a 2lb trigger has this leading the way at this point and Ill yell at my gunsmith till he figures out how to make the shock shorter without killing it. lol
Interesting to me, yet not a big deal since Ive never used it, the Electra will NOT shoot Blackhorn 209, as is advertised anyway. ODD I feel and gives me pause buying the powder (as does cost) if a 5-10 times "hotter" ignition wont fire it.
One would think with the TOTALLY closed breach and ignition system type it would fire anything combustable. ODD, IMHO.....but onward I go.
I handled a (yes, I saw the "broke" thread) a Wolf yesterday. LIght? oh man. Felt good.
A short stocked Accura would probably fit my needs....if such a beast existed. Anyone ever shorten a synthetic stock? Yish. It SEEMS one could cut a section out of it and improvise a way to add and remove it at will. REALLY odd to me that only one gun on the market has this built in. Since I am of average old fart proportions I cannot believe this is a factor only noticed by me.
About the only doable option I see is two guns, neither "high dollar" of course but still cheaper than customizing ONE gun, also odd, and will still leave me with "less than desirable" results even if truly functionable for my needs.
While NOT any kind of consideration to most, the thing I DISlike about almost all the ML out there in current AFFORDABLE configurations......is they are just dang UGLY.
Yeah, I want it all but don't see a doable option short of (for me) big bucks invested for a gun Id use less than a month a year and a LOT of the reason looks comes into play.
I LOOK AT my guns more than I use them so part of the equation. A LARGE part of why I will NOT put big money in a ML is the looks and if "cheap" I dont mind ugly QUITE as much.
As I said, just more out loud ramblings so add to thoughts or ignore me, your choice. LOL
AM I MISSING ANYTHING?
A affordable, short stocked, thumbhole, break open, or otherwise easy to clean, closed breach ML with a LIGHT trigger........flat dont exist from what I see.
God Bless
