Bailey has been home for over a week now. Seems to be doing very well. Her appetite has returned, and she's eating 4 times a day. Plus eating her regular dog food, which she was not doing for a while. She has renewed energy, and is playing with the other dog, PLUS the extra I am watching for Squealey this past weekend. She has a big scab 3" diameter on her chest that the vet doesn't know what it's from. But it's doing a lot better as well. All the swelling there has receded and it's healing fine. She is on antibiotics still, but a renewed dose for that specifically. She was 60.7 lbs at the Vet last Monday, and she was 63 this past Friday. So she's piling the weight back on. All in all... she's a LUCKY dog, because, and I know a lot of you would think me an ass for this, had the Vet told me $3250 up front... she'd be worm food now. I am glad she made it, and I am sure we'll appreciate her more in the coming years. I know this is not a great picture, but I snapped it on my phone the other day. Thanks for all the support, and continued concern. Jabba

That is good news.
I can not find fault in your statement on the money spent. Even spending that much there was no gaurantee that she would make it.
Glad all is well now.

Glad she is doing better. I certainly would not think bad of you had you made the decision to put her down. Those decisions are tough to make, and you as the owner are the only one that can make it. In the past, I've made the decision to proceed with treatment and also to not proceed with treatment. Like Woody stated, spending more money does not guarantee recovery. All you can do is consider all factors and make the best decision you can.

Happy she is doing better and I understand your thoughts. Shifting mojo into the good fortune mode for you. Best of luck to you.

I need to get her on some birds. My other short-hair is a bird getting machine. She's of the same line, and is FULL of hunt, but I have really neglected her time on birds. My 3 year old son has really derailed her training.
She's got the hunt in her though.

I spent close to $1,000 on my cat Reuben James. He had a miserable two weeks before we determined that he was not going to get any better and we put him down.
I also know we hung on a year too long with my Lab Andy, purely out of selfishness. We did not want to give him up.
That is a very personal and emotional issue. I do not blame anyone one way or another on what their decision is.

I know a couple of ladies here at school have pet insurance for the vet bills.

My could get it. But it's pretty expensive, has a big deductable, AND only pays half.
It would have helped with THIS, but it's pretty rare that you get a vet bill like this. And had I known... it would have been a $150 vet bill, and a $800 new puppy bill.
